Client: Eugene Nesmeyanov
Objective:
The objective of this project was to draw a diagram of Titanic's "big piece" on an 8.5inx11.5in sheet of paper. The "big piece" is a 15 ton section of Titanic's hull that was recovered from the wreck in 1998. Eugene placed his trust in Chris to create this piece for his new book "Breaking Titanic: Analysing RMS Titanic's Hull Fracture" as the book was in the final editing phase. Eugene requested that the drawing be completed within two weeks, and Chris was able to finish it within a week and a half. What makes this drawing so unique? It was drawn entirely by hand! The drawing is located on page 141.

Chris has devoted over two decades to studying ocean liners, focusing primarily on the Olympic-Class and Lusitania-Class ships. At the age of eight, he received his first book about RMS Titanic, Discovery of the Titanic by Dr. Robert D. Ballard, featuring paintings by Maritime Artist Ken Marschall. These paintings inspired Chris to artistically preserve the legacies of these great ocean liners, while the James Cameron Titanic (1997) movie inspired him to hand-draw the profile and deck plans.
Following 18 years of refining his drafts, Chris confidently created the deck plans for the proposed Olympic and Titanic. In Spring 2023, the became the first person in over 100 years to draw the deck plans with pencil and pen (to the best of his knowledge).
